Why Do I Need to Get Temporary Veneers?
March 10, 2023
If you’re interested in getting a smile that will impress people wherever you go, turning everywhere you go into a red carpet, veneers can give them to you! This cosmetic treatment can give you a smile to be proud of in as little as two appointments.
One aspect of getting veneers that doesn’t get talked about enough is the fact that you will almost certainly have to wear temporary veneers for a while. Here’s why.
What are Temporary Veneers?
Put simply, temporary veneers are an acrylic model of the final set of veneers that you designed with your dentist. These veneers are designed to be worn while you’re waiting for your permanent set to be crafted, and are therefore adhered with a much weaker cement than your final ones will be.
Why Are Temporary Veneers Necessary?
In order for your veneers to blend in with the rest of your teeth, your dentist will have to remove a little bit of your enamel. They’ll usually do this at the first appointment you have with them, when your dentist designs your veneers with you.
That being the case, you’ll need something to protect your teeth while your veneers are being crafted. Temporary veneers are used for this purpose.
However, they also have the nice side benefit of letting you test out the design you devised with your dentist, and send any notes to the lab while your veneers are being crafted. Use them as an opportunity to get input from your friends and family, so you can be sure that you’re getting exactly what you need from our permanent veneers.
Caring for Temporary Veneers
Your temporary veneers are important to protecting your teeth, so it’s a good idea to do what you can to keep them attached. They’re adhered with a weak cement, so most dentists recommend adopting a soft foods diet for the week or two that you’re wearing them. You should be careful to stay away from hard or chewy foods and stick to softer meats or purees.
Temporary veneers will be a relatively small part of your cosmetic dental journey, especially when compared to how long your veneers will last. That said, they can do a lot for you if you use them correctly.
